BAND PARENT INFORMATION SESSION
September 17th, 7 PM
Heron Pond Cafe
4th & 5th Grades
(1st year students/parents only)
The Milford School District offers free after school instrumental lessons to students in Grades 4 & 5. These lessons are taught by Ms. Chaplin who has an extensive career in the instrumental music field having previously taught in Shirley, Mass., Nashua, NH, and finally here in Milford since 1996. Students start in September and are grouped according to instrument,1st or 2nd year experience and finally by grade level. Lessons are offered in 30 minute blocks starting at 3:15 pm and continue until 7:30 to afford families the opportunity to have a convenient lesson time. There are often lesson groups offered on multiple days for similar instruments. Students are scheduled for one, 30 minute lesson per week. Instruments which are available are flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, trombone, baritone, and percussion (drums & bells). Other instruments, (such as oboe, tenor sax, french horn) are offered on a limited basis to 5th graders who already have experience and would like to challenge themselves. Detailed information on renting or borrowing an instrument are found in the Band Parent Handbook. Large group rehearsals start in April to help prepare for the 'end of year' concerts. Students are able to reschedule their lesson times if needed if there is a conflict. Concert dates are normally announced during April. An electronic copy of the band handbook will be available soon as a link on the 4th grade tab. Registration forms are PDF ready for both 4th and 5th Grades. We are using Bruce Pearson's book, "Tradition of Excellence" found at music stores and online at Amazon.
LESSON CANCELLATION: Please check emails to keep informed of any lesson cancellations due to inclement weather or teacher illness. It is not always possible to send a last minute phone call although this will be done if necessary.
